With Rodin and Brancusi, Henry Moore is one of the three most celebrated sculptors of the 20th century. Having sought a book that adequately encompasses his art for quite some time, I was thrilled to acquire this excellent Royal Academy publication. Christa Lichtenstern comprehensively covers the many aspects of Moore's life and work. The important areas considered include his early work, surrealist stimuli, the Shelter Drawings, dialog with tradition, Englishness, theory and his influence on later artists. I found this last section particularly instructive. There is an abundance of high quality reproductions (often large sized) of Moore's sculptures and his drawings, many being in full color. There are additionally illustrations of works by artists of related interest. Highly recommended.
